Hexcel employs more than 250 people in research and technology, and the company has more than 1,350 patents and pending applications worldwide.
Many of our manufacturing sites have research and technology centers where scientists and engineers work on projects specific to the location. In addition, we have primary R&T centers in the U.S. (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Europe (Duxford, Cambridgeshire, U.K.).
- The Center of Research & Technology Excellence at our Hexcel Salt Lake City campus opened March 22, 2023. The 100,000-square-foot building is home to a state-of-the-art laboratory where company scientists and researchers collaborate with customers on the latest composite technology developments for aerospace, space and defense, and industrial applications. With its completion, the facility is the company’s largest center for innovation and product development in North America and a showcase for the company’s advanced composites technology, providing space for future growth and expansion in the years ahead. The company expects to add up to 150 jobs at the center over the next 12 years.
- Our state-of-the-art research center at Duxford demonstrates our commitment to continued innovation. The center opened in May 2016 and is our largest center for research into resin systems and adhesives. Hexcel Duxford also is our center of excellence for process technology including product scale-up and research into new processes for making composite materials, including quality control methods. The Innovation Center is supporting the growing worldwide demand for composite materials for aerospace and industrial markets. The building houses Hexcel’s chemistry and product development functions and is fully equipped with state-of-the-art formulation and analytical laboratories, mixer rooms, and microscopy and SEM laboratories.
